課程概述

This course will train students to learn how to write an academic journal research paper. The course will consist of an introduction to academic English and to the framework of each part of an academic paper. Students will also be trained how to make an oral presentation of their research.

課程目標
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
1: critically evaluate and analyze a variety of texts for academic purposes
2: identify features of academic writing and apply their knowledge of academic writing to organize their ideas into a logical and coherent text
3: recognize the moves and steps in constructing research papers
4: develop proof-reading and self-editing skills
5: make effective written and oral presentations of one’s own work 
課程要求
1.Students are required to attend all classes. No more than three excused absences are permitted.
2.Active participation in class discussions is required.
3.Writing assignments are carefully scheduled as stages toward the fulfillment of the course’s objectives. Late assignments will not be accepted.

Assignment 
45% 
 Students will have individual, pair and group writing assignments. The writing assignments will be related to academic writing skills and structures, such as data commentary and SPSE.  Students will free-write on various topics and share their responses with one another.  Students will do moves & steps analysis of research papers in their discipline and compare their findings with students from different disciplines.

Learning Evaluation Tasks

Task1: Identifying Features of Academic Writing (30 points) Task 2: Move Analysis- the Introduction Section (30 points) Task 3: Data Commentary (40 points)

Oral and/or poster presentations 
20% 
Students will apply the presentation skills covered in the class and give oral and/or poster presentations.

Classroom participation  
15% 
Based on students’ participation in class discussions and CEIBA, and their attendance.
